Job Purpose We are now recruiting a post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on an exciting research project for out Met4Tech project, which creates a UKRI funded Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Technology Metals. Met4Tech will explore how to create a circular economy for the technology metals, such as lithium, cobalt, rare earth elements and others essential in decarbonisation and digital technologies. The Birmingham project strand will be led by Professor Aleksandra Cavoski. The four year programme will address the governance contribution for a circular economy in technology metals both relating to primary metal production and secondary materials’ recovery. If you have completed your doctorate, and have a background in regulation, relating particularly perhaps to waste management, we would be pleased to receive an application from you. This role is offered for 36 months from July 2021. Candidates are expected to have an undergraduate degree in law or a cognate discipline plus a PhD ideally relating to the law and science interface. An ability to handle statistical data is highly desirable as is experience of writing for academic publications. Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team would be welcome. Work within specified research grants and projects and contribute to writing bidsOperate within area of specialismAnalyse and interpret research findings and resultsContribute to generating fundingContribute to licensing or spin out deals with demonstrated commercial success (such as revenues, asset or company sales, IP generated) and/or public understanding of the discipline or similar Main Duties and Responsibilities The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research, with assistance of a mentor if requiredContribute to writing bids for research fundingAnalyse and interpret dataApply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understandingDisseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etcSupervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the disciplineContribute to developing new models, techniques and methodsUndertake management/administration arising from researchContribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administrationContribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leaderCollect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews *Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters *Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research *Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines*These indicative responsibilities may also be included in a research role at grade 6.
