The role The School of Geographical Sciences is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Geographical Information Science to champion and to lead the teaching of geographical and statistical computing in the School, and to offer ‘out-of-lecture’ support to students in these areas. What will you be doing? To lead and contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate units in geographical and statistical computing. Modules currently include: Introduction to Quantitative Geography Introduction to GIS and Remote Sensing Key concepts in Geographical Sciences Spatial modelling To offer support to and to supervise student projects and dissertations employing a variety of computing and statistical methods. To champion the importance of having computational facilities available to students in the School that are suitable for our status as a world-leader in geocomputation, quantitative geography and geographic data sciencRole holders at this level will be individuals with experience of university teaching who have teaching and scholarly experience in the field of geographical and statistical computing. A high level of proficiency using R, RStudio and either ArcGIS or QGIS essential. You should apply if Role holders at this level will be individuals with experience of module delivery and development at degree and/or masters level. You will be able to demonstrate the aptitude to lead a teaching unit, including management of a small teaching team and design of content and assessment, You will have scholarly experience in the field of geographical and statistical computing and evidence of a high level of proficiency using R, RStudio and either ArcGIS or QGIS essential.
