Payables Costs Handler

Our Costs team in Bolton are looking to add an Entry level File Handler to the team. The role was be perfect for someone with an interest in Law or a Law degree with a little work experience. The role is to negotiate and settle costs on all portal and fixed costs matters. To pursue the settlement of costs as expediently and economically as possible. It is important that the jobholder can quickly review and evaluate files and identify issues to incorporate into initial costs strategy, commence early telephone negotiations with other side and liaise with Insurers if necessary.

Key Accountabilities

Responsible for management of own caseload using in-house case and costs management systems, including internal costs calculator software to produce accurate calculations of costs dueReviewing files to identify strengths and weaknessesPreparing cost strategy document to reflect thisDealing with correspondence and telephone callsUndertaking periodic reviews of files in line with Client requirementsUndertaking periodic reviews of files in line with internal and Client requirementsSettling files and recording all necessary MI.Updating internal reports as required with settlement dataMeeting agreed performance targetsTo ensure compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct 2011Provide written updates by email or letter to clients detailing case activity to ensure that they receive up to date and accurate information about progress when requested.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

Essential:
Good standard of education – 3 GCSE’s grade C or above or equivalent including Maths, English & Science as a minimumExcellent telephone negotiation skillsAbility to effectively use own initiativeAbility to plan and prioritise workloadsExcellent listening and verbal communication skillsAbility to make decisionsAbility to remain calm under pressureProficient IT skills Desirable:
Previous experience of handling own caseloadEducation – Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCDExperience in a similar costs negotiator role either claimant or defendantHave an understanding of Provisional and Detailed Assessment processes, Cost Case Law and trends and Insurance Litigation practice & processExperience of preparing Points of Dispute and considering replies
