Title: Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner (SSP)
FIT Bowel Cancer Screening
Grade: Band 6 (WTE) 24 hours per week over any 3 days
Reports to: Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Manager/Lead SSP
Accountable to: Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Manager / Clinical Director
Base: Calderdale Royal Hospital. Will be expected to travel to otherScreening sites within CHFT and Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust as required.
To provide Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP)Nurse Led Service to participants in the Bowel Cancer Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIt) Screening Programmes across two Acute Trusts.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a person to take on the post of Bowel Cancer Screening Specialist Screening Nurse Practitioner. This post requires a qualified nurse with a minimum 4 years post registration experience and ideally some experience of nursing Colorectal patients. The post holder will be expected to manage a caseload of patients within specific targets and must conform to local and national policies, procedures and guidelines. All patients are on a 62 day cancer waiting time journey which must be closely monitored and escalated as required to the Programme Manager. The service will be provided during the day, evenings and weekends therefore the post holder must be flexible to ensure continuity of service
The post involves provision of Nurse Led Clinics in community settings across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield and attendance and support at Screening Colonoscopy Lists at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Pinderfields General Hospital.
Bowel Cancer is a major health issue. It is the fourth most common cause of cancer in the UK. Bowel Cancer Screening aims to reduce the number of deaths by 16% nationally. The Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield Bowel Cancer Screening Programme currently invites men and women aged 60-74 to complete an at home test kit, which if positive requires them to attend for further diagnostic tests. The programme will be age extended to invite men and women aged 50 -74 over the next 4 years across 3 screening sites at full roll out.
