As a result the Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network was established and a hub and spoke model was developed. The hub is based at the Walton Centre and numerous spoke rehabilitation units were set up at neighbouring hospitals. We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled speech and language therapist to apply to work at Seddon Suite Specialist Rehabilitation Unit at St Helens Hospital, Merseyside. It is a therapy-led unit providing individually tailored programmes to suit the need of patients who have suffered multiple trauma or life changing diagnoses.

Rehabilitation will be active and continue at a level of intensity and duration that can be tolerated by the patient to enable the achievement of optimum functional potential. The unit also offers an outpatient service, accessible by appropriate patients within the network.

The successful applicant will be part of a motivated, forward thinking, close multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, rehabilitation assistants, clinical psychologists, a rehabilitation coordinator, social worker and rehabilitation nurses. The medical team is also led by a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine. We require a speech and language therapist with experience of working with adults with acquired and progressive neurological conditions. A flexible approach to day to day tasks is essential in order to meet the demands of the service. Our philosophy is to keep the patient at the heart of everything we do. We look for people who are willing to go the extra mile, not because they are asked to, but because they are committed to being part of a healthcare team that delivers an excellent caring service to our patients.
