This is a rare opportunity for an experienced engineer to join a large consultancy in a senior role in leading a well-established and still developing team, with the responsibility for managing and growing the team, leading projects and bids, and developing great relationships with our clients. Currently comprising 15 staff, the Glasgow structures team is part of a 50 strong Built Environment group located in Glasgow and 110 staff across Scotland and Ireland.

The Glasgow team delivers many projects that are important to the local community as well as across the globe on national and international prestigious schemes. We currently have projects in the health, education, rail, defence, energy, sports and water sub-sectors ranging up to £450m.

To be successful in this role you will be able to motivate a team of people to perform at their best to win work, deliver projects and provide a great service to our clients. You will be able to demonstrate good organisational skills as well as be able to collaborate across a variety of networks.

As the successful candidate, your day to day duties will include: Day to day management of the team, including direct line management of the more senior staff in the team. Reviewing and managing the team’s workload to ensure that all staff are busy and bringing in additional support where necessary. Understanding the development needs of the team members and assisting them to achieve their goals and progress their career. Responsible for liaising with external stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction and pursuing and promoting opportunities with potential and established clients; Running projects ensuring that we meet our clients’ expectations while working within budgets and to programme. Demonstrating technical expertise, providing in depth knowledge and leadership whilst proactively supporting, coaching and developing team members. Candidate Specification As the successful candidate you will have/be: Chartered MIStructE/MICE or equivalent; Structural Engineers Registration (SER) Certified is desirable but not essential; Security clearance desirable but not essential; Experience of leading high performing teams including the ability to inspire people to perform at their best as well as dealing with differences or issues within a team; Experience of delivering structural and civil engineering designs on buildings projects across the Built Environment Sector for healthcare, education, bio-tech, defence, custodial, rail, water, energy, industrial, food and drink and commercial sub-sectors within a multi-disciplinary team; The ability to liaise with, manage and report on the inputs of colleagues providing supporting services to the projects such as civil, geotechnical and fire engineering and contamination and acoustic consultancy; Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and colleagues working in various locations, including remotely and overseas; The ability to line manage, coach and mentor members of the team (including Chartered Engineers, Technicians and others); The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all internal and external stakeholders; Ability to market services to develop business with new and existing clients; Ability to successfully manage (to budget and deadline) a projects portfolio ranging in size from £10 Million+; Good knowledge of contractual issues and risks relating to delivery of projects and be able to negotiate contracts (with assistance from legal team) on behalf of Mott MacDonald); Ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of statutory, technical and environmental considerations and the ability to provide technical solutions to meet those obligations; Experience of using analytical/design software such as Robot, Etabs, Staad, CSC, RAM, Tedds and other design spreadsheets or tools; Ability to prioritise in a diverse and busy role to deliver best long term results for the business; Ability to monitor progress towards team and individual objectives taking action on issues that may affect performance or project delivery. Job Profile Due to continuing success and planned expansion, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Building Structures team in Edinburgh and / or Glasgow. Our team is being expanded to deliver projects in healthcare, bio-tech, education, defence, custodial, rail, water, energy, industrial, food and drink and commercial sub-sectors within Scotland and beyond.
